B.C. expands monitoring of repeat offenders with new Lower Mainland hubs

British Columbia is expanding its supervision of repeat offenders by opening seven new intervention and monitoring hubs in the Lower Mainland. The move is intended to address street disorder and crimes affecting local businesses. The province says up to 865 people are being tracked under an existing repeat violent offender program and a newer program for chronic property offenders launched last month. In the Lower Mainland, 365 people are being monitored across 11 hubs, including four in Vancouver. Public Safety Minister of State Terry Yung said the initiative is meant to respond to concerns from residents and business owners. The ministry said many of the people involved face challenges linked to housing instability, mental health, and substance use.
