Toronto goalie Sophie Jovanovic has become just the second female player ever selected in an Ontario Hockey League draft, after the Brantford Bulldogs picked her 40th overall in this week’s Under18 draft.
The 17yearold said she was surprised and excited when she got the call while waiting with her family. The selection gives her a chance to attend training camp and compete for a spot with the team.
Jovanovic has played hockey for about 12 years and says she hopes to keep improving while balancing school and training. She also says she wants other girls to enjoy the sport and remember that unexpected opportunities can happen.
