Nvidia agrees to buy Hugging Face for $12.93 billion
Nvidia acquires Hugging Face to expand AI tools and developer access Stay flexible with open models, clouds and chips as the deal unfolds
Nvidia has agreed to acquire Hugging Face for $12.93 billion, expanding its role in the software and tools used to build artificial intelligence systems.
Hugging Face says its platform is used by more than 18 million developers and hosts over 3 million models. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said the service will remain open to the wider AI ecosystem, with users still able to choose different models, frameworks, cloud providers and computing platforms.
The deal would give Nvidia a larger presence in the competition over AI chips, software and developer tools. Nvidia said its own hardware will not be required to use Hugging Face, and the company plans to keep supporting models from other developers and multiple cloud and accelerator providers. The transaction is expected to close in 2027, pending regulatory approval.
