CLARITY Act odds fall as Democratic opposition continues
CLARITY Act prospects dim as Senate Democrats question crypto market rules See what’s blocking the bill, from ethics to stablecoin and sovereignty concerns
Odds that the CLARITY Act will become law in 2026 fell sharply on Monday after key Senate Democrats said they were not satisfied with Republicans’ latest proposal.
The bill would set rules for how the US Securities and Exchange Commission and Commodity Futures Trading Commission share oversight of the crypto market. Republicans need 60 votes to move the legislation forward, and a failure to advance it this week could delay the effort.
Democratic lawmakers raised concerns about ethics provisions and enforcement language, while banking groups said the revised text still leaves gaps around stablecoin rewards. Tribal gaming organizations also warned that parts of the bill could affect tribal sovereignty and prediction markets. Crypto industry groups, meanwhile, urged senators to support the measure.
