Elkford graduation venue changes amid ongoing water disruption
Elkford water disruption: graduation moves to the arena after pump failure See how crews, schools and businesses are adapting during the boil-water notice
Elkford Secondary School in Elkford, B.C., will hold its graduation ceremony at the Elkford Arena this week after a pump failure disrupted water service in the community last Tuesday.
The district says temporary measures have partially restored water flow in some areas, but residents are still being told not to drink or use the water for consumption while crews continue repairs, flushing and testing. The boil water notice remains in place.
Mayor Steve Fairbairn said the repair process involves specialized equipment and several steps before normal service can return. The disruption has affected about 550 properties and has also forced schools and local businesses to adjust during a busy graduation week. Officials are using temporary pumps and alternate water supplies to support needs such as fire protection and access to drinking water.
