The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday declined to hear Donald Trump’s appeal in a case that upheld a $5 million verdict in favor of E. Jean Carroll.
Carroll accused Trump of sexually assaulting her in the 1990s, and a jury later found him liable for sexual abuse and defamation over comments he made about her claims. Trump argued that the trial was unfair because the court allowed jurors to hear evidence about other alleged past misconduct, but lower courts had already rejected that argument.
The high court’s decision leaves in place the 2023 jury award, which was upheld on appeal in 2024. The separate $83.3 million defamation verdict Carroll won in another case also remains under review in the courts.
