Toronto residents with loved ones in Venezuela are waiting for updates after two powerful earthquakes struck the country on Wednesday, leaving widespread damage and reports of deaths and injuries. Rafael Miranda, who works at a Toronto restaurant serving Venezuelan food, said two relatives are missing in Naiguatá in the coastal state of La Guaira. He said he has been in contact with other family members but remains worried as crews search through destroyed buildings. Another Toronto resident, Yenipher Crespo, said she is still in shock after hearing the news. She described the situation in Venezuela as already difficult and said the earthquakes have added to the hardship for families trying to confirm whether relatives are safe. Torontobased disaster relief group GlobalMedic said it has offered help to Venezuelan authorities, including drone support and emergency supplies, as recovery efforts continue.
