The towns of Newmarket and Aurora in Ontario are removing Frank Stronach’s name from public facilities after his sexual assault conviction last week.
In Newmarket, officials said Frank Stronach Park will be renamed Veterans’ Park. Mayor John Taylor said council concluded the name should be changed because it no longer reflects community values.
In Aurora, the Stronach Aurora Recreation Complex will also lose Stronach’s name after discussions with Magna International about naming rights. The company said it will not renew the sponsorship and asked for the name to be removed. Aurora says it will now look for a new naming partner.
Southlake Health in Newmarket is also reviewing the naming recognition for the Stronach Regional Cancer Centre after a separate request from Magna. Stronach, 93, was found guilty of one count each of indecent assault and sexual assault in Toronto.
