McIntosh wins 400m IM at Canadian trials after record-setting swim

Summer McIntosh won the women’s 400metre individual medley on Day 2 of the Canadian swimming trials in Montreal, finishing in 4:27.35. The 19yearold from Toronto was well ahead of the field, though her time was nearly four seconds slower than the world record she set at last year’s national trials in Victoria. McIntosh said she was not fully satisfied with the result and planned to review her splits before preparing for the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships. The race came one day after she set a world record in the women’s 200m butterfly, a performance that drew praise from Michael Phelps. Elsewhere at the meet, Lorne Wigginton set a new Canadian record in the men’s 400m IM with a time of 4:11.32. Taylor Ruck won the women’s 100m freestyle, Kylie Masse took the women’s 50m backstroke, Ruslan Gaziev won the men’s 100m freestyle, and Javier Acevedo claimed the men’s 50m backstroke.
