CN Rail is investigating after a 45car train derailed in Repentigny, north of Montreal, on Sunday afternoon.
Police were called to the area of Le BourgNeuf Boulevard and ÉmileGenest Street around 4:30 p.m. No fires, leaks, or injuries were reported, and officials said three of the cars had previously carried diesel but were empty at the time of the derailment.
Residents in the area were briefly evacuated as a precaution, but municipal officials later said the site was secure and people could return home. The derailment also disrupted local power service, though most outages had been restored by Monday morning. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has sent a team to conduct an independent investigation.
