The seat opened in June when Liberal MP Jonathan Wilkinson resigned to become Canada's ambassador to the European Union. Caley, who previously worked with Prime Minister Mark Carney in the Prime Minister's Office, was one of six candidates on the ballot.
CBC News also projects Liberal wins in two other federal byelections on Monday, in Ontario and Quebec. The results would give the Liberals a legislative majority in the House of Commons as more byelections are expected in the coming months.
