Ontario investigation leads to major drug seizure

Police agencies in Ontario and the United States have seized nearly 1.7 tonnes of illegal drugs in a crossborder investigation that also led to 21 charges, authorities said Thursday. The case, known as Project Bay, involved 22 search warrants across several Ontario communities, including Windsor, Brampton, Markham, Caledon, LaSalle, Corunna and Kleinburg. Investigators said they recovered cocaine, methamphetamine, opium, oxycodone tablets, firearms, ammunition, cash, jewelry and electronics. Police said the investigation began in January 2025 after a Windsor drug trafficking probe and later expanded with help from the Canada Border Services Agency, Ontario Provincial Police and U.S. agencies. Authorities said the network allegedly used commercial trucking to move concealed drugs inside legitimate freight loads, and the broader investigation is still ongoing.
