Wildfire crews in Clinton, B.C., are assessing damage as warmer and windier weather raises the risk of more fire growth across the province.
The Pear Lake wildfire, estimated at 66,000 hectares, slowed during cooler and wetter conditions, but officials say it is expected to grow again along with other fires in B.C. The blaze has already led to expanded evacuation orders and alerts in parts of the Cariboo Fire Centre, including Clinton and 70 Mile House.
Jean Strong of the BC Wildfire Service said local officials do not yet know how many homes or structures were lost in the Clinton area. Damage assessments are underway, and residents will be updated directly once the review is complete.
Strong also said the province is bringing in more firefighters from other regions, including the Yukon, Alberta, and Mexico, to help support the response.
