Coquitlam film permits nearly triple from last year
Coquitlam film permits jumped in 2026, driving a $1.6M boost for local business See how rising productions support jobs, suppliers, and the city economy
Coquitlam, B.C., approved 20 film permits between January and April 2026, up from seven during the same period a year earlier.
City officials said the increase has brought a larger economic benefit to local businesses, with the city estimating a $1.6 million impact compared with $260,000 last year. Industry workers said productions support caterers, equipment rentals, vehicle fleets, clothing stores, and other local services.
City staff said they are surveying production companies to better understand how much of that spending stays in the community. Local business leaders said the rise in filming has helped the area, though they noted the industry can remain uncertain from year to year.
