Alberta RCMP and family renew appeal in 1976 murder case

The Alberta RCMP and the family of Marie Julie Goudreau are asking the public for new information in the 1976 killing of the 17yearold near Edmonton. Goudreau disappeared on the night of August 2, 1976 after leaving friends in Edmonton and heading home to Beaumont, Alberta. Her car was found abandoned later that night on a rural road south of the city, with the engine still running, the headlights on and her belongings inside. Her body was discovered two days later in a ditch west of Beaumont, and an autopsy ruled the death a homicide by strangulation. Investigators say they have received more than 600 tips over the years but have never laid charges or named a suspect. The RCMP Historical Homicide Unit says even small details that seemed unimportant at the time could now help the case. Goudreau’s sister says the family is hoping that witnesses or anyone with information will come forward while there is still time.
