Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh told lawmakers on Wednesday that he regularly speaks with the Trump administration, including Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, while defending the central bank’s independence.
Warsh said he meets weekly with Bessent as part of a longstanding tradition and also talks with him often between those meetings. He declined to say whether he has spoken with President Donald Trump since taking office.
The remarks came during testimony before the Senate Banking Committee in Washington, where Warsh said the Fed’s independence remains essential as officials debate the path of interest rates and inflation stays above the central bank’s 2% target.
