B.C. bars and restaurants welcome liquor policy change

British Columbia’s hospitality industry is welcoming a threeyear provincial pilot that expands how bars, pubs and restaurants can buy liquor.
Under the trial, businesses can purchase alcohol directly from B.C. liquor stores as well as private liquor stores, instead of relying only on the Liquor Distribution Branch. Operators say the change gives them more flexibility when popular products run out during busy periods.
Industry representatives said the move could ease cash flow pressures and offer more product choice. The provincial government says the program is not expected to affect liquor revenue or permanent jobs, and it will be reviewed after three years.
