Wildfires in British Columbia trigger evacuations amid dry conditions

Emergency crews are responding to a wave of wildfires across British Columbia as hot, dry weather continues to fuel the flames. The BC Wildfire Service says the Fiftynine Creek fire, northwest of Clinton, has grown to more than 102 square kilometres and has led to evacuation orders and alerts. In the southern Interior, the ThompsonNicola Regional District expanded an evacuation order overnight because of the outofcontrol Pear Lake fire. Officials also warned residents in the Boston Bar area to follow evacuation orders and alerts, and authorities upgraded an alert to an order near Hells Gate and Alexandra Lodge as fires moved through the Fraser Canyon. In southeast B.C., the entire city of Kimberley remains under evacuation alert because of nearby fires in the Bootleg Complex. Fire crews say weather conditions remain challenging, with no rain expected soon and temperatures staying above seasonal norms. The wildfire service says 89 blazes are burning across the province.
