25 States Sue Trump Administration Over New Global Tariffs

A coalition of 25 Democraticled states has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration over newly imposed tariffs on goods from 60 trading partners. The states argue that the administration exceeded its authority and used a trade law in a way that sidesteps earlier court rulings. The complaint was filed in the U.S. Court of International Trade and targets tariffs of 10% or 12.5% on most imported goods from the affected economies. The states say the measures cover nearly all U.S. imports and were adopted without the required countrybycountry consultations. The lawsuit asks the court to block the tariffs, overturn them, and refund duties already paid. It is at least the second legal challenge to the policy, following a separate suit by small businesses.
