Environment Canada says 10 tornadoes were reported in Saskatchewan on Friday, matching the province’s oneday record. The storms formed as a prolonged heat wave brought hot, humid air to the Prairies.
Meteorologist Kayla Bilous said the severe weather risk remains elevated while heat warnings stay in place across southern Saskatchewan and Manitoba. In some areas, humidex values are expected to reach the mid40s, including Winnipeg, where the forecast calls for a humidex of 45 on Sunday.
The heat alert has also expanded into parts of northwestern Ontario near the Manitoba border. Officials say there have been reports of damage, but no injuries or deaths so far. Residents are being advised to stay hydrated, limit outdoor exertion during the hottest part of the day, and keep monitoring weather alerts.
