Fetterman backs McCormick in surprise video at GOP convention

Sen. John Fetterman appeared in a surprise video message at a Republican midterm convention on Wednesday night, praising President Donald Trump and Sen. Dave McCormick while criticizing what he called the Democratic Party’s extremes. Speaking from in front of a steel mill, the Pennsylvania Democrat said he was working with McCormick and Trump to support the state’s steel industry and described McCormick as a senator who gets things done for Pennsylvania. The appearance highlighted Fetterman’s growing distance from some Democratic leaders and the party’s left wing, as well as his willingness to break with Democrats on issues including Israel, immigration, and some Trump administration priorities. It also drew attention to his unusually close relationship with McCormick, his former 2022 Senate rival, and could fuel further questions about his political future.
