Two homes destroyed in Sechelt subdivision fire

Sechelt fire destroys two abandoned Seawatch homes in suspected arson See how crews contained the blaze and kept nearby properties safe

Two abandoned homes in Sechelt's Seawatch subdivision were destroyed by fire on Saturday, according to the local fire department. Fire Chief Dwight Davison said investigators believe the blazes were started deliberately. Crews responded shortly before 10 a.m. PT and found one house fully burning and another smoking nearby. The subdivision has been fenced off since 2019 after sinkholes and other geotechnical risks forced residents to leave. Fire crews allowed the homes to burn because the area is inside an exclusion zone, but they worked to keep the fire from spreading to nearby properties and forested land. No injuries were reported.
