Alberta and Canada sign housing infrastructure agreement

The federal and Alberta governments have signed an agreement that will let municipalities across the province access hundreds of millions of dollars for water and infrastructure projects tied to new housing. Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the CanadaAlberta Housing Infrastructure Fund Agreement in Red Deer on Wednesday alongside Alberta Premier Danielle Smith. The deal gives Alberta access to a $510 million share of the Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund over eight years, with the province expected to cover at least onethird of eligible municipal project costs. Carney said the agreement is expected to support about 750 skilled trades jobs each year and will direct at least $100 million toward projects benefiting rural and Indigenous communities. He also said the two governments are working on a broader AlbertaCanada agreement through Build Canada Homes to expand affordable housing and related infrastructure, including roads, transit, and public facilities.
