A cargo vessel reported coming under attack in the Red Sea on Sunday, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Centre, a British maritime security alert service.
The incident was reported about 30 nautical miles southwest of Yemen’s port city of Al Hudaydah. UKMTO said the crew triggered a distress alert and that authorities are investigating the situation.
The warning comes as ships continue to transit a strategically important route near the Bab elMandeb Strait, a key chokepoint connecting the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea. UKMTO advised vessels in the area to proceed with caution.
