Man fined $27,000 for feeding dangerous wildlife in West Vancouver

Wildlife feeding in West Vancouver led to a $27,000 fine after bears and coyotes See how conservation officers cracked the case and why it matters for safety

A B.C. man has been fined $27,000 after conservation officers said he intentionally left food to attract dangerous wildlife in West Vancouver in spring 2022. The B.C. Conservation Officer Service said Kenneth Amaral placed food attractants at several sites along Keith Road between April 26 and May 8, 2022. Officers said bears and coyotes were seen feeding there, including locations near homes and a walking trail. According to the service, Amaral admitted he intended to feed the animals even though he knew it was prohibited and had already been warned by a member of the public. Officials said the case is meant to reinforce that feeding wildlife can create risks for both animals and people.
