B.C. teacher suspended for attempting to meet someone he believed was 14
Vancouver Island teacher ban follows a Grindr sting and boundary violation ruling. See how the case unfolded and why regulators revoked his certificate for seven years.
A Vancouver Island high school teacher has been given a multiyear ban after a disciplinary panel found he tried to arrange a meeting with someone he believed was a 14yearold boy on Grindr.
The teacher, identified in the decision as Carlos Deni Pavan, was actually chatting with an adult posing as a teenager as part of a sting operation. The conversations took place in March 2023 and were later reviewed by the B.C. Teacher Regulation Branch.
The decision says Pavan, who was teaching in the NanaimoLadysmith School District at the time, lost his teaching certificate for seven years. He was fired by the school district in June 2023, and the regulator said his conduct violated professional boundaries and damaged public trust in the education system.
