SK Hynix and Samsung surge as AI rally returns
South Korea chip stocks surge as AI spending fears ease after strong Amazon and Microsoft earnings SK Hynix and Samsung jump on renewed cloud demand, lifting semiconductor shares across Asia
South Korea’s chipmakers SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics jumped sharply in Seoul on Friday after strong earnings from Amazon and Microsoft revived confidence in artificial intelligence spending.
SK Hynix rose nearly 30%, its biggest daily gain on record, while Samsung climbed almost 27% for its strongest singleday advance. Other regional semiconductor stocks also moved higher, including LG Innotek, Seoul Semiconductor, Advantest, Tokyo Electron, Disco, Lasertec, Renesas Electronics, SoftBank Group and TSMC.
The rebound followed a recent selloff in chip shares over concerns about high AI valuations and competition from Chinese memory makers. Investor sentiment improved after Microsoft reported faster Azure cloud growth and Amazon posted betterthanexpected revenue, easing worries that AI infrastructure spending was slowing.
