Canadiens stun Lightning in Game 7 to advance with a 2-1 win See how Montreal survived late pressure and set up a second-round clash
The Montreal Canadiens advanced to the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs after a 21 Game 7 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Montreal scored with very few shots on goal, but made the most of its chances and held on late to close out the series.
Nick Suzuki opened the scoring by deflecting a shot from Kaiden Guhle after strong work from Cole Caufield and Josh Anderson down low. Alex Newhook later scored the winner by banking the puck off Tampa Bay goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy from behind the net.
Goaltender Jakub Dobes played a key role for Montreal, stopping repeated Tampa Bay chances as the Lightning controlled much of the shot volume. The Canadiens will now face the Buffalo Sabres in Game 1 on Wednesday night.
