Québec Solidaire calls for funding to support Montreal Metro repairs

Montreal Metro funding: Québec Solidaire urges faster access to federal transit cash Protect service, fix urgent station repairs, and help prevent more rush-hour disruptions

Québec Solidaire is urging the CAQ government to secure Quebec’s share of a new federal public transit fund to help address problems in Montreal’s Metro system. The party says the province is slowing access to about $5 billion in federal money that other provinces have already started to use. Cospokesperson Ruba Ghazal made the appeal after service across the metro network was briefly stopped during the Thursday morning rush. Ghazal said the funds should go toward public transit, especially the Montreal Metro, and called on Premier Christine Fréchette to move quickly. The provincial government said talks with Ottawa are continuing and that there is no sign the money will not arrive. The discussion comes as the Société de transport de Montréal says 35 stations need repairs, including five that are considered urgent. Transit advocates say the system needs steady investment to avoid more disruptions and possible station closures.
