Possible tornado in Quebec under investigation after severe storm

A severe storm in Quebec on Sunday left drivers dodging debris in the Repentigny area, northeast of Montreal, as Environment Canada and the Northern Tornadoes Project examined whether a tornado touched down. Meteorologist Kate LeClerc said radar and storm conditions showed weak rotation, but that does not always mean a tornado formed. She said the agency tracked heavy rain during the peak of the storm and did not issue a special warning because strong winds were not detected. Officials said the weather pattern this summer has created favorable conditions for storms, with hot and humid air contributing to unstable weather. Parts of southern and eastern Quebec, including the Quebec City area, remain under rainfall warnings and severe thunderstorm watches, with the risk of heavy rain, wind gusts, hail and possible tornadoes.
