SK Hynix options debut as trading shifts to semiconductor ETFs
SK Hynix options debut with modest volume after the stock's sharp rally See why call selling and ETF competition may be shaping early trading
SK Hynix options began trading on Tuesday, but the new contracts drew less attention than expected after a strong rally in the stock and a sharp gain in the shares on the day.
By midday, about 150,000 SK Hynix options had traded. More calls than puts changed hands overall, though the most active directional trade was call selling. Cboe listed five monthly expiries for the new contracts.
Trading activity was modest compared with some related semiconductor names and funds. Volume in SK Hynix options was below that of Micron and the Roundhill memory ETF, while Nvidia remained far larger in activity.
One reason for the softer debut may have been the rise of leveraged singlestock ETFs tied to SK Hynix. Several ETF issuers filed products linked to the company, and many started trading on Tuesday. Analysts also pointed to the large and growing DRAM ETF, which holds SK Hynix as one of its top positions.
