Evacuation order expands near Loon Lake as Pear Lake wildfire grows

An evacuation order in the Loon Lake area of British Columbia has been expanded to cover nearly 1,500 properties because of the Pear Lake wildfire.
The ThompsonNicola Regional District said Friday morning that about 375 more properties were added to the order, bringing the total to 1,494. The expanded area includes Loon Lake and properties along Highway 97 from Loon Lake Road to beyond Scottie Creek Road.
The regional district said the fire poses a threat to life and safety, and residents in the affected area must leave immediately. Officials estimate the wildfire has grown to 73,217.11 hectares and has already led to eight evacuation orders and three evacuation alerts.
