Republican senator seeks investigation into Trump Jr. wedding funding

Trump Jr. financial ties probe: Curtis urges Senate scrutiny over foreign benefits Subpoena push targets gifts, contacts and family-name gains—see what’s in question

U.S. Sen. John Curtis, a Republican from Utah, is urging the Senate Judiciary Committee to investigate whether Donald Trump Jr. benefited financially from his connection to the presidency after reports that a Russian oligarch helped pay for part of his wedding celebration. Curtis asked the committee to subpoena Trump Jr. about his business ties, contacts with foreign individuals and any gifts or benefits that may have come through his family name. He also said the same level of scrutiny should apply to Hunter Biden. The request follows reporting that Umar Kremlev, who has close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin, helped cover costs for a private island rental and fireworks for a postwedding event in the Bahamas. Trump Jr. and Bettina Anderson said Kremlev, described as a friend, hosted the celebration after their wedding.
