Apache helicopter rescue near Oman: U.S. crew recovered after crash at sea See how joint forces and a first-ever unmanned vessel helped save the aircrew
Two U.S. Army crew members were rescued after an AH64 Apache helicopter went down near the coast of Oman on June 8, according to U.S. Central Command.
CENTCOM said the soldiers were recovered within about two hours and were later listed in stable condition. The incident happened while the aircraft was patrolling regional waters, and the cause is under investigation.
A CENTCOM spokesman said the rescue was carried out with support from U.S. Naval Forces Central Command and the 82nd Airborne Division, along with Air Force and Navy units. Officials also said an unmanned surface vessel helped recover the aircrew, which they described as a first for the U.S. military.
