Heavy rain hits Calgary as river levels rise in Alberta

Calgary is under a rainfall warning from Environment and Climate Change Canada, with forecasts calling for 50 to 100 millimetres of rain and isolated areas potentially receiving more than 100 millimetres. Officials are warning drivers about pooled water and flooded roads as conditions worsen across the city. The Calgary Fire Department has also issued a boating advisory for the Bow River because of high flows. Hydrologist John Pomeroy said river levels are elevated, including on the Bow River in Calgary and in other southern Alberta basins, but he said the situation is not expected to reach the severity of the 2013 Alberta flood. City officials said crews are monitoring conditions, adjusting the Glenmore Reservoir, and preparing drainage and floodresponse resources. Floodrelated closures are also affecting parts of Banff National Park, Lake Louise, and Canmore, where high water has led to trail, campground, and access restrictions.
