Mississauga under severe thunderstorm warning as storm approaches
Mississauga severe thunderstorm warning: 150 km/h winds, hail and tornado risk See the latest impacts, transit updates and safety steps before storms hit
Environment Canada has issued a redlevel severe thunderstorm warning for Mississauga as a fastmoving line of storms approaches southern Ontario. The agency said the system could bring destructive wind gusts, large hail, heavy rain and, in some areas, the risk of a tornado.
The warning covers areas including Mississauga, Hamilton and Kitchener. Environment Canada said winds in the storm could reach near 150 km/h, creating a risk of major damage, power outages and dangerous travel conditions. Toronto, meanwhile, has been downgraded to an orange severe thunderstorm watch, with the possibility of damaging winds, hail and flooding rain.
City and transit officials in Toronto are preparing for possible disruptions. The TTC said it is monitoring conditions and will adjust service if needed, while police reported calls about downed wires and fallen trees. Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow said the city is activating its emergency operations centre and urged residents to take steps to reduce flooding risk.
