Maple Leafs remove top pick Gavin McKenna from prospect event

Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Gavin McKenna misses the NHL Prospect Challenge See what the Leafs’ next wave still brings against Ottawa and Winnipeg

The Toronto Maple Leafs will not have top prospect Gavin McKenna take part in this weekend’s NHL Prospect Challenge in Gatineau, Quebec, according to media reports and comments from Toronto Marlies head coach Steve Sullivan. McKenna, 18, was selected first overall by Toronto in this summer’s NHL draft after coming from Whitehorse. He had been listed on the team’s roster for the event earlier in the week. The Maple Leafs’ prospects are still scheduled to face the Ottawa Senators on Saturday and the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday. Sullivan is coaching the squad alongside the Marlies staff.
