More storms forecast for flood-hit western Manitoba

Western Manitoba is facing another round of severe weather after weekend flooding left roads washed out, homes damaged, and some residents stranded. Environment and Climate Change Canada said Tuesday that parts of southern Manitoba and southeast Saskatchewan could see heavy rain, damaging winds, large hail, and possible tornadoes. The hardesthit communities include Swan Valley West, MinitonasBowsman, and Swan River, where local states of emergency have been declared and several highways remain closed. In Minitonas, about 148 millimetres of rain fell in a few hours, overwhelming drainage systems, causing power outages, and leaving parts of the community without reliable communications, water, or sewer service. Officials said some residents have been evacuated or told to consider leaving lowlying areas, while crews continue sandbagging and assessing damage. Manitoba Hydro reported widespread equipment damage and access problems, and provincial leaders said emergency resources are being sent to the region as the risk of more flooding remains high.
