Federal police say a 24yearold Quebec City man has been charged with terrorismrelated offences after an investigation that began in April. The RCMP allege Louay Angoud communicated online with members of a terrorist group and looked into building a chemical weapon that could be used to poison Canadians.
Police say he intended to carry out an attack on behalf of the Islamic State. The charges include using or possessing property for terrorist purposes, participating in a terrorist group, commission of an offence for a terrorist group, and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
The RCMP said there were no signs of an imminent attack, though officers said he had the knowledge to carry one out. Angoud was arrested on Wednesday and was found with a knife, according to police. He appeared in Quebec City court by video link on Thursday and is scheduled to return on Sept. 28 for a bailhearing date.
