Montreal residents say roadwork cut off access to their homes
Montreal roadwork blocks Notre-Dame-de-Grâce driveways and surprises residents See why NDG neighbors are frustrated, and when access may reopen
A Montreal woman says major roadwork in NotreDamedeGrâce has left her unable to leave her home by car after returning from a trip. Alison Aylward said crews severed access to her driveway and walkway on Kensington Avenue, and she says she received no advance warning.
Several nearby residents described similar frustration, saying notices arrived too late or only after construction had already begun. Some also raised safety concerns about narrowed streets, parked equipment, and limited room for larger vehicles such as buses, ambulances, and fire trucks.
The City of Montreal says the project is part of roadway reconstruction and sidewalk widening, and the borough says disruptions are expected during major infrastructure work. Officials said contractors notify affected residents before work starts and noted that driveways should become accessible again during the construction holiday break.
