One dead, one missing after fall into St. Lawrence River in Quebec

Quebec river rescue search continues after one man dies near Marsoui Officials keep looking for missing fisherman as crews scour the shoreline

One man from Montreal is dead and another person is still missing after two people fell into the St. Lawrence River near Marsoui in Quebec’s Gaspé region on Friday morning. Provincial police said emergency crews were called around 8:15 a.m. after reports of two people in distress in the water. According to police, the pair had been fishing from a rocky shelf when one lost footing and fell into the river. The second person then tried to help but was also pulled away by the current. Search teams later found one victim, a man in his 30s, on Friday morning. The Canadian Coast Guard, local firefighters, volunteers, and Quebec provincial police have continued searching for the second person by boat, helicopter, and on foot along the shoreline. On Saturday, police said they had set up a command post and requested additional search specialists.
