Toronto police arrest man in 2006 Scarborough homicide cold case

Toronto police have arrested and charged a Hamilton man with firstdegree murder in a Scarborough homicide that dates back to 2006. Police said Patrick Santos, 21, was found dead at a home near Ellesmere Road and Bellamy Road in September of that year. Investigators said DNA evidence collected at the scene did not match the national database at the time, so the case remained unsolved for years. In 2020, police turned to genetic genealogy, identified a person of interest last year, and later confirmed a DNA match. Police said 43yearold Pierre O'Connor was arrested on Wednesday. The investigation is still ongoing, and officers said they believe more than one person may have been involved. They did not disclose a motive, but said the death may have followed a dispute between two friend groups.
