Poilievre calls for ethics committee review of B.C. condo plan

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is asking Parliament’s ethics committee to examine a federal and B.C. government plan to buy unsold Metro Vancouver condos and later resell or rent them at more affordable prices. In a letter posted on X, Poilievre urged the committee chair to hold a meeting and investigate whether Prime Minister Mark Carney’s plan could involve conflicts of interest. He argued the policy amounts to a bailout for developers, while the governments say it is intended to expand affordable housing supply. The proposal is part of a broader partnership between Ottawa and Victoria that includes more than $5 billion for B.C. infrastructure, $3.2 billion to lower development charges for multiunit housing, and $284 million to reduce barriers to new construction. A committee probe would still face an uphill path because Liberals hold the majority of voting seats on the ethics committee.
