China Threatens Retaliation After U.S. Humanoid Robot Import Restrictions

China’s commerce ministry said it may respond after the U.S. Federal Communications Commission moved to restrict new imports of certain foreignmade advanced robotic devices, including humanoid robots, over cybersecurity concerns. In a statement on Thursday, the ministry said the U.S. action hurts ChinaU.S. economic and trade ties and urged Washington to withdraw the decision. The FCC said earlier this week that some foreignproduced robotics would face tighter import limits, though models already approved could still be imported. The dispute comes as trade and technology tensions between the two countries remain high ahead of a planned meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in September. The move also comes as Chinese humanoid robot makers continue to expand, with several companies drawing interest from investors and preparing for public listings.
