Iran Offers to Reopen Strait of Hormuz and Resume Nuclear Talks
Strait of Hormuz talks could restart in 7 days if U.S. meets Iran’s terms Watch how Iran’s offer could ease Middle East tensions and shake energy markets
Iran says it could reopen the Strait of Hormuz and restart nuclear talks with the United States within seven days if Washington accepts its conditions, according to remarks by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi at the U.N. General Assembly in New York.
The proposal comes amid renewed tension in the Middle East, including missile and drone attacks linked to the conflict, reduced shipping traffic through the strait, and falling oil prices on Friday. The Strait of Hormuz is a key route for global energy shipments.
The diplomatic push also comes as U.S. President Donald Trump meets with Chinese President Xi Jinping, with Washington seeking Beijing's help in encouraging Tehran toward a settlement.
