Inflation risks rise in electronics supply chain after resin shortage

A disruption at a Saudi petrochemical complex has tightened supply of highpurity resin used in printed circuit boards, a key component in smartphones, computers, appliances, vehicles, and data center equipment. The shortage began after the Jubail industrial complex was hit during the IranIsrael conflict and shut down as transit through the Strait of Hormuz became difficult. With the facility still offline, analysts say the supply issue could add cost pressure across the electronics industry if it lasts into the autumn. Producer price data already shows stronger price increases for processed goods, and PCB makers have reported higher costs for inputs such as resin and copper. Larger companies like Apple may be able to absorb some of the impact, but experts say lowermargin devices, accessories, routers, gaming hardware, and some premium phones could face more noticeable pricing pressure or tighter inventory.
