An overnight fire damaged several businesses in downtown Armstrong, B.C., including historic buildings along Pleasant Valley Boulevard. Crews were called to the scene late Tuesday and had the flames under control by Wednesday morning. The Armstrong Spallumcheen Fire Department said the blaze began in the back of an older building and was difficult to fight because of its age and previous renovations. About 40 firefighters responded at the peak of the incident. Several nearby businesses were affected, including the Wild Oak Cafe and The Twisted Purl Yarn Studio, which said on social media that its store was completely lost. The Great Wall restaurant reported water damage in its basement and a power outage, while another neighbouring building suffered smoke and water damage. Investigators are still looking into the cause.
