E.ON Uses SAP S/4HANA and AI to Modernise Grid Operations

E.ON SAP S/4HANA standardizes grid data and cuts IT downtime across energy ops Modernize utility infrastructure with AI-ready systems built for reliability and scale

E.ON is using SAP S/4HANA as part of a broader effort to standardise grid data, improve infrastructure, and support AI deployments across its energy business. The company says the approach is helping it modernise operations while managing largescale IT and maintenance demands. The utility operates across energy grids, customer solutions, and energy infrastructure services. To reduce technical complexity, E.ON has focused on cloud ERP migration, standardised data structures, and the removal of legacy middleware. The company says this has contributed to a 77% reduction in IT downtime over five years. E.ON is also building more of its data and cybersecurity capability inhouse, including teams of data specialists and security professionals. Its AI roadmap is taking a cautious, usecasedriven approach, with priorities including customer service automation, predictive maintenance, and operational optimisation. The company says these efforts are designed to support reliability, cost control, and the longterm expansion of its grid network.
