Businesses in British Columbia are watching closely as Canada, the United States and Mexico prepare to review CUSMA next week. The meeting will decide whether the trade agreement is extended for 16 years or kept under annual review. Premier David Eby said from the outside it is difficult to know how the negotiations will unfold. He noted that the U.S. remains B.C.'s largest trading partner and that tariffs are already affecting sectors such as forestry. Trade lawyer William Pellerin said the U.S. has signaled it may seek a broader renegotiation, while Laura Jones of the Business Council of B.C. said companies should expect ongoing uncertainty over the next several months. Trump has also said he would like to see the agreement ended, adding to concern among exporters and other crossborder industries.
