US-Iran war ends as leaders announce a permanent ceasefire and deal Markets may steady as sanctions ease, shipping resumes, and talks restart
The United States and Iran have agreed to end their nearly fourmonth war, according to announcements from Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and U.S. President Donald Trump. The agreement is set to be formally signed on Friday in Switzerland.
Under the deal, military operations on all fronts are expected to stop immediately and permanently, including in Lebanon. Trump also said the U.S. naval blockade would be lifted and the Strait of Hormuz reopened.
The announcement came after weeks of conflicting signals from Washington and Tehran. The conflict had already affected shipping, oil, gas, fertilizer supply chains, and inflation, and the accord was welcomed by Qatar and noted by European leaders as a possible opening for broader nuclearrelated talks with Iran.
